Securely Shred Important Documents At Howard Co. Event

COLUMBIA, MD — Grab that stack of papers or box of unwanted files and head over to Howard County's fall document shredding event, The BIG Shred.

The shredding event will be Oct. 17 at several locations. It will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until the trucks are full.

Howard County residents can take up to three bags or boxes of vital documents to be shredding securely onsite at these four locations:

• North Laurel Community Center (9411 Whiskey Bottom Road)
• Gary J. Arthur Community Center (2400 MD-97)
• Elkridge Landing Middle School (7085 Montgomery Road)
• Long Gate Park & Ride (4951 Meadowbrook Lane)
  

Residents are reminded to only shred documents that include account numbers, passwords, PINs, signatures, Social Security numbers and dates of birth, including:

• Federal and state tax documents
• Credit card and other household bills
• Medical records
• Pay stubs
• Mortgage documents
• Insurance bills

The following items will not be accepted:

• File folders
• Manila folders
• Junk mail
• Schoolwork
• Event programs
• Coloring books
• Brochures
• Advertising
• Magazines
• Calendars, etc.

Residents are asked to make sure that boxes or paper bags are free of the following:

• Batteries
• Plastic or glass items
• Binder clips
• Screwdrivers
• Scissors
