Driver Dies In Police Pursuit With Howard Co. Officer

JESSUP, MD — A fatal police-involved collision that happened Sunday in Jessup is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal police-involved collision that happened Sunday.

The preliminary investigation indicates that on Sunday around 2:17 a.m., an officer with the Howard County Police Department started pursuing a 2018 Infiniti Q60 after the vehicle hit an occupied, parked Howard County police vehicle sitting in a parking lot in the 7100 block of Montevideo Road.

The driver of the Infiniti fled the scene and the HDPD officer gave chase. The pursuit lasted around a mile, according to police, when the driver of the Infiniti ran off the road and crashed into a retaining wall. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene and two passengers were taken to Shock Trauma where they're listed in stable condition, according to police.

The IID will generally release the name of the decedent and any involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol.

The officer was equipped with a body-worn camera. The IID will generally release body-worn camera footage within 20 business days of an incident. There may be situations where more than 20 days is necessary, including if investigators need more time to complete witness interviews, if there are technical delays caused by the need to shield the identities of civilian witnesses, or to allow family members to view the video before it is released to the public. Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred overnight following the hit and run of a police vehicle.
