School Calendar Adjusted For Howard Co. Public Schools

The 2026-2027 school calendar has been adjusted to align makeup days with state education dept. guidelines and reflects removing mid-terms.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Additional adjustments have been made to the upcoming school year calendar affecting Howard County Public School System families.

On June 25, the Howard County Board of Education approved adjustments to the calendar that align possible makeup inclement weather days with Maryland State Department of Education requirements and take into account the removal of mid-term exams for middle and high school students.

The adjustments are:

  • Jan. 14-15, 2027: Two scheduled early dismissals marked for mid-terms are now full days for all students.
  • Feb. 11-12: Both days are now early dismissals for elementary schools, for parent-teacher conferences (previously scheduled for the January early dismissals above).
  • June 14-16: Three additional inclement weather days have been added for a total of six inclement weather days (June 9-11 and June 14-16) to align with MSDE requirements.

The first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year for kindergarten through 12th grade students will be Monday, Aug. 24, and Thursday, Aug. 27 for pre-kindergarten/RECC students.
