Car Catches Fire While Underneath Gaithersburg Carport: MCFRS

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A vehicle fire broke out over the weekend in the Gaithersburg area, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident was reported Sunday shortly before 6 p.m. at the 11300 block of Rambling Road, just off High Point Drive.

Pete Piringer, of the MCFRS, said the vehicle caught fire while it remained under the carport of a single-family home.

No injuries were reported at the scene as the occupant had exited the vehicle, according to Piringer, who also said there was "little or no extension" to the home.

Piringer said the vehicle was a Jeep but did not specify what caused the vehicle to catch fire.

In early June, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall for Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler models from 2021 to 2025 due to a fire risk even after the car is turned off.

Officials at the time said the risk could be tied to an issue with "the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring."

The recall, issued after 51 vehicle fires, impacted over 1 million Jeep models.
