MoCo Man Pleads Guilty In 2025 Crash That Killed 71-Year-Old Woman

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Brody Richardson, a 20-year-old man from Boyds, pleaded guilty Wednesday in the case of a high-speed crash that killed a 71-year-old woman last year.

Richardson was facing charges of grossly negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle and homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was 19 at the time of the fatal rollover crash.

The collision took place in July 2025 at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road in Germantown.

At the time, Montgomery County Police said 71-year-old Mary Elizabeth Moody, of Germantown, was pronounced dead at the scene after her 2018 Subaru was hit by a 2021 Mazda being driven by Richardson.

The impact of the collision caused the Subaru to roll over and eject Moody from the vehicle. Richardson had been hospitalized with serious injuries.

Investigators found Richardson at fault in the crash after finding that he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20 and had used marijuana before driving.

An analysis of vehicle and scene data also revealed that Richardson had been driving 94 mph when he entered the intersection. The speed limit at the section of roadway was 55 mph.

Court records show Richardson has a sentencing hearing for Oct. 31. He remains released on an unsecured $10,000 personal bond.
