GERMANTOWN, MD — Thousands of residents were left without power for several hours over the weekend after a transformer fire broke out in Germantown. Pete Piringer, of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said the transformer fire occurred in the Milestone community around 1:30 p.m., near Observation Drive and Ridge Road. It wasn't until about 4 p.m. that power began to return to some parts of Germantown, although a few traffic signals continued to see outages throughout much of the day. Work at the site remained active Sunday until at least 10:30 p.m. Officials have not released additional details regarding the transformer fire.

We are seeking dog owners and their four-legged companions to assist in testing next-generation technology designed to distinguish between human and non-human movement in home environments! What You Will Do Location: Onsite, realistic mock-apartment setup in the Rockville, MD area. Duration: 1-hour private, 1-on-1 session with an onsite moderator. Activities: You and your dog will perform routine, everyday household activities guided by the moderator, such as walking room-to-room, playing, or searching for treats, while motion-tracking devices evaluate the environment. Participant Requirements To be eligible, you must be located in Rockville, MD or within a 1-hour drive of the area, and be willing to travel to the testing facility. You must own a well-socialized dog, be comfortable participating in light physical activity alongside your pet, and have availability on weekdays. The total payout is $150, which covers 1 hour of onsite testing and round-trip travel time (to and from the site). Note: This is an onsite project.
