Man Charged After Fight Leads To Fatal Shooting: Police

A man is facing murder charges after a parking lot fight ended with the fatal shooting of a Glen Burnie resident, police said.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Ioannis Georgios Giorgakis, a 32-year-old man from Baltimore, is facing murder charges in connection to the fatal shooting of a Glen Burnie resident over the weekend.

Court records show Giorgakis was charged with first- and second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in a violent crime.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department said Giorgakis had gotten into a physical fight with 27-year-old Michael Joseph Hayes on Saturday at a parking lot in the 7700 block of Baltimore Annapolis Blvd.

It was during the altercation that police say Giorgakis pulled out a gun and fatally shot Hayes.

The Glen Burnie resident was pronounced dead at an area trauma center after emergency crews were called to the scene around 9 p.m.

Giorgakis remained at the scene as first responders carried out their investigation.

Early findings indicate Hayes was at the scene earlier in the day. Police did not detail what had prompted him to return.

Giorgakis is being held without bond. He is scheduled for a Monday hearing.
