Student Stabs Teachers During Assault At Harford Co. Elementary School
A student stabbed two teachers during dismissal time at Roye-Williams Elementary School Tuesday afternoon, police report.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Two teachers were stabbed during an altercation with a student, prompting Roye-Williams Elementary School to go into a modified lockdown on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
Harford County sheriff's deputies were called to the elementary school around dismissal time, 3:33 p.m., for a report of an assault that resulted in injuries suffered by two teachers.
School staff, a school resource officer and responding sheriff's deputies provided first aid until paramedics arrived and took over treatment, officials said. First responders treated the injured teachers and took them to the hospital. They have since been released.

Buses ran at least 45 minutes late due to the incident, which delayed dismissal. Parents were advised at the time that they could not enter the building to pick up their students.
The school district stated on its website that it would have additional counseling services on site on Wednesday for any students who want to speak with one.
Investigators are working with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and the Harford County State's Attorney's Office to determine what action to take moving forward.
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler stated that he "recognizes the community’s concerns and understands the desire for more information. Maryland law protecting juvenile offenders currently restricts law enforcement from releasing additional details regarding this incident."
“The safety of our students and school staff is my absolute priority,” Gahler said. “While state law limits the information we can release at this time, please know that swift effective actions were taken by school staff and responding deputies to prevent further injury. I am incredibly grateful for the brave actions of the school staff and our School Resource Officer, whose quick response brought this situation under control.
"Our Elementary School SRO program assigns one school resource officer to multiple schools. This is a contrast to our middle and high schools that each have deputies specifically assigned to the school."
