MD School Gets Teachers' Lounge Renovated After Flood

Teachers at the Monarch Global Academy in Laurel had their lounge renovated, months after a burst pipe flooded the school.

ANNE ARUNDEL CO., MD — Teachers at the Monarch Global Academy in Laurel were surprised with a renovated lounge Wednesday, months after the school was flooded by a burst pipe.

Heidi Wilson, of the National PTA, told Patch that the lounge makeover was done in partnership with the Monarch Global Academy PTA and Walmart for Teacher Appreciation Week.

The work was carried out to "thank the teachers at the school for going above and beyond every day to support their students’ success in and out of the classroom."

The flooding at the campus happened in March and prompted the Anne Arundel County Public Schools to switch to virtual learning while cleanup efforts were carried out.

School officials had not detailed the severity of the flood damage at the time, but had said classrooms sustained damage.

The Laurel school is located at 430 Brock Ridge Road.
