Baltimore County Lawmakers Take Aim At Rural Road Safety

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Two Baltimore County lawmakers will introduce a new piece of legislation on Tuesday that will require a new rural traffic safety plan.

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks said Friday that he would be introducing the measure alongside Councilman Nino Mangione after the Labor Day weekend.

"Across rural Baltimore County, many have expressed their frustration that not enough is being done to improve safety on many corridors," Marks said in a Facebook post.

He continued, "The answer isn’t simply 'enforcement,' since there aren’t shoulders for police cars on many roads - and it isn’t always speed humps or speed cameras, the latter of which can only be installed at schools."

"It’s time to make a strong push for a safer rural county," he added.

The resolution would direct the Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation to hold public hearings, evaluate findings and present possible strategies to the Baltimore County Council by March 2027, according to NottinghamMD.
