9 Injured When Boat Explodes At Popular Chesapeake City Eatery: Fire Marshal

7 of those injured were on the boat and 2, on a nearby dock, officials say.

CHESAPEAKE CITY, MD — Nine people were injured during a boat explosion at Schaefer's Canal House in Chesapeake City Saturday, the fire marshal said.

According to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, a team of Deputy State Fire Marshals are actively investigating a boat explosion in Cecil County with multiple injuries.

At around 4:20 p.m., Volunteer Fire Company #1 of Chesapeake City, Inc., along with Cecil County Paramedics, IAFF Local 4645 and several other departments responded to Schaefer’s Canal House for the reported boat explosion, officials said.

"We can confirm that nine people were injured," the Maryland State Fire Marshal said. "Seven were on the boat and two were on a nearby dock."

A total of four people were flown by Maryland State Police -Aviation Command and Christiana Care Health Ne,t with the remainder being transported by ground to local facilities, officials said.
