3 People Displaced After Electrical Fire Causes $150K In Damages To MoCo Home: MCFRS

ROCKVILLE, MD — A fire that broke out over the weekend in a single-family home in Rockville was ruled accidental after authorities traced it back to a small refrigerator.

More than 50 firefighters with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service were called Sunday around 2 p.m. to the 1900 block of S. Fallsmead Way, just off Wootton Parkway.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said first responders encountered the fire in a second-floor bedroom, as smoke was coming from the home.

After the blaze was extinguished, investigators determined the fire was accidental and believed it was caused by an electrical malfunction in a small refrigerator kept in the room.

Piringer said none of the residents were at home and that no injuries were reported at the scene.

Three residents, however, were displaced as a result. Officials estimate the fire amounted to about $150,000 in damages.
