First Grade MoCo Teacher Given 12-Year Prison Sentence For Selling Fentanyl

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Sarah Katherine Magid, a 36-year-old former first grade teacher, was sentenced Wednesday to 12.5 years in prison for selling drugs that killed a man.

In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis ordered Magid to three years of supervised release. She is also required to pay $29,090 in restitution for costs linked to the man's burial.

The sentencing ties back to the March 2024 death of a D.C. man whose autopsy revealed he had died from fentanyl toxicity.

Magid was arrested in connection with the case by August 2024, when authorities executed a search and seizure warrant on her Burtonsville home.

Documents presented in court included text messages that showed Magid had sold fentanyl to the man, and that one sale involved fentanyl pills that were made to look like oxycodone hydrochloride pills.

In a separate sale that took place three months after the man's death, Magid was found to have exited her first grade classroom during work hours to sell drugs outside of the school.

Court filings reviewed by WUSA9 at the time showed Magid worked at Charles Drew Elementary School while the drug transactions were taking place.

The case was jointly investigated by the Montgomery County Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
