Silver Spring Man Dies After Being Struck By Tesla In DC
Bernard Massey of Silver Spring died five days after he was struck by a Tesla while crossing Georgia Avenue in Northwest D.C.
WASHINGTON, DC — A Silver Spring man died five days after he was struck by a Tesla while crossing Georgia Avenue in Northwest Washington, D.C., authorities said.
Bernard Massey, 56, died Tuesday from injuries he suffered in the Sept. 3 crash in the 7700 block of Georgia Avenue NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said Massey was standing on the east sidewalk before running into the road midblock and outside a crosswalk. He ran between a school bus and a sedan that were stopped in northbound traffic before entering the southbound lanes, according to a preliminary investigation.

Massey was then struck by a southbound 2025 Tesla Model Y, police said. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after the crash.
The Tesla driver called 911, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police. Authorities said officers observed no signs that the driver was impaired.
