Baltimore Co. Man Snags $1 Million Scratch-Off During Pizza Run

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A Gwynn Oak man was recently left with the shock of a lifetime after a 7-Eleven scratch-off returned $1 million in winnings.

The man, who was not identified by the Maryland Lottery, said in a release that he snagged the winning ticket after picking up pizza for dinner.

The late August surprise, however, only came after he grew frustrated by the size of a large pizza he ordered from a new pizzeria, and then again with the size of the lottery scratch-off display at a Randallstown 7-Eleven.

In his opinion, neither was large enough.

He ultimately took the pizza home and bought three Extreme Green lottery tickets regardless of the questionable sizes.

It wasn't until the following day, when he was getting ready to leave for work, that he realized he'd won big, according to the Maryland Lottery.

"I only scratched the bottom and when I scanned the tickets, the last one had a message stating it was a $1 million winner," he said in a statement. "I thought something was wrong and scanned it several more times before it sunk in."

His wife said in a statement that she "kept calm so he could settle down and go to work" after she was made aware of the winning ticket.

The couple claimed the winnings Aug. 31 and plan to use the funds to pay off debts. The ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven at 9856 Liberty Road.
