Arctic Blast, Freezing Rain Coming To MA: See Latest Forecast

Some areas of Massachusetts will see slippery travel and more accumulating snow on Tuesday.

A blast of arctic cold and a wintry mix of snow, rain and freezing rain early this week will pave the way for what could be a very spring-like warmup this weekend and into early next week across Massachusetts.

Monday will much more resemble the bitter chill of the past three months than the promise of toasty days ahead with morning lows near zero degrees and afternoon highs only in the 20s, according to the National Weather Service. A light northwest wind will make it feel like the teens for most of the day.

Another cold night follows Monday night with the NWS calling for a low temperature of 7 degrees in Boston with a wind chill factor of negative-1.

A mix of rain and snow will move in late Tuesday morning, with the NWS forecasting precipitation to begin at 10 a.m. It will be mostly cold rain south of Boston in the areas that got up to 3 feet of snow in last week's blizzard, while north of Boston could get up to 3 inches of snow. The highest amounts will be north and west of Route 495.

It will be unsettled to end the week with rain possible on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the 40s on Thursday and Friday, and 50s on Saturday and Sunday.

Long-range forecasts include potentially much milder air coming in next week, with NBC Boston's 10-day forecast calling for a high of 60 degrees next Monday and Tuesday, and a high of 66 degrees next Wednesday.
