MASSACHUSETTS — Welcome to Patch's weekly round-up of food and restaurant news in Massachusetts, where we review openings, closings, and more in the state's dining scene.

This week, we learned that a Bay State favorite grocery store chain plans to open another location, and which Massachusetts restaurants were named semifinalists for a prestigious award.

Trader Joe's is planning to open a location in Reading, a company official confirmed this week.

Nakia Rohde, a public relations manager for the company, said, I’m happy to share that we have plans for a Trader Joe’s store in Reading. We do not yet have a location or timeline to share."

Currently, Trader Joe's operates 21 stores in the state.

A new supermarket is coming to the Natick Mall

T Market, a high-end Asian grocer, is slated to open at the former Wegman's location at the Natick Mall, at 1245 Worcester St.

It is expected to open for business in late April or early May, the business's co-founder, Theresa Liao, told the Metrowest Daily News.

Here’s which Mass. restaurants were named as 2026 James Beard Semifinalists

In Massachusetts, four restaurants and chefs were named semifinalists this year, including O Ya in Boston, Spoke Wine Bar in Somerville, State Road on Martha's Vineyard, and Talulla in Cambridge.

A total of six chefs at restaurants in Boston were named semifinalists, including Nader Asgari-Tari at Zurito, Alyssa Mikiko DiPasquale at The Koji Club in Brighton, Sāsha Coleman at Comfort Kitchen in Dorchester, Amarilys Colon at La Padrona, Luke Fetbroth at Tonino, and Shi Mei at Lenox Sophia.

And five other chefs across the state were named as well, including Monica Glass of Verveine Cafe in Cambridge, Pao Thampitak at Gaaeng Supper Club, Whitney Stancil at Cuvée at Chatham Inn, and Peter Nguyen and Lê Madeline in Quincy.
