Hundreds Of MA Jobs Cut As Companies Close Workplaces: August Layoff Report

Hundreds of employees may face layoffs amid workplace closures throughout the state, according to a new group of state filings.

Seven employers filed new Massachusetts Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications last month. The layoff or closure notices list 647 affected positions at companies in Cambridge, Franklin, Littleton, Boston, Taunton and Wareham, along with a few remote workers.

The planned cuts involve biotechnology, transportation, logistics, banking and safety equipment companies.

Blueprint Medicines filed the largest new notice, covering 229 employees in Cambridge. The layoffs are expected to begin Oct. 9 and continue through June 2027.

France-based Sanofi acquired the Cambridge biotechnology company in 2025. Sanofi said the cuts are part of its integration of Blueprint and confirmed that two former Blueprint locations will close. Remaining employees will move to Sanofi’s Cambridge Crossing campus, Fierce Pharma reported.

National Express Transit Corp., doing business as Kiessling of Attleboro, filed a notice affecting 162 employees in Taunton and Wareham. The company provides transportation services in the region, including services connected to the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect Sept. 15.

Postal Center International plans to close its Franklin mailing facility and eliminate 112 jobs. The Florida-based company opened the facility at 29 Hayward St. as its Northeast operations hub in 2023.

The Franklin layoffs began Aug. 13 and are expected to continue through Sept. 30. PCI cited unforeseen business circumstances in its filings, according to Boston.com. The company also filed closure notices affecting facilities in Florida and Texas.

P1 Logistics, an Amazon delivery contractor, plans to end its operations at 151 Taylor St. in Littleton and lay off 77 employees on Oct. 24. The cuts include 74 delivery associates and three managers.

The Amazon logistics facility itself will remain open, an Amazon spokesperson told the Boston Business Journal. P1 Logistics is one of several delivery contractors operating from the site.

Boston-based Noble Supply & Logistics filed a notice covering 59 positions at its Seaport headquarters, with layoffs expected by Oct. 9. The defense and government supply contractor subsequently announced that it and several affiliates had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Noble said it plans to continue operating while considering a sale, reorganization or other restructuring. The company attributed its financial difficulties in part to changes involving a major Defense Logistics Agency contract, according to its Aug. 31 announcement.

Pure Safety Group, which does business under the Guardian Fall brand, plans to close its Franklin facility at 290 Beaver St. and eliminate five warehouse positions on Oct. 2. The Texas-based fall-protection equipment company said every job at the Franklin location would be eliminated but did not give a reason for the closure.

SMBC Manubank also filed a notice covering three remote Massachusetts positions scheduled for elimination Oct. 9.

Updated Notices From 3 MA Employers

The August WARN report also included updated notices from three employers.

Community Healthlink’s revised filing lists 639 positions in Worcester and Leominster, EMD Serono’s updated notice lists 20 positions in Billerica and Thermo Fisher Scientific’s updated filing lists 15 positions in Franklin.

Those positions are not included in the 647-job total for new filings.
