ARLINGTON, MA — Fourth of July activities in Arlington could have extra sparkle in 2026, the 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, of the Declaration of Independence.

- Arlington Independence Day Concert and Picnic: This event at Robbins Farm Park begins with a concert from a local "oldies" band, followed by a live presentation of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular played on a large screen. Pizza and Apple Pie will also be sold as refreshments.
- Newton Bo and Bill Winiker Band Concert and Fireworks Spectacular: The nine-member group will play tunes from each era of the country's past 250 years on Albemarle Field. It will be followed up by a fireworks display with local food trucks selling refreshments throughout.
- Newton Fourth of July Kids' Morning: Children between the ages of three and 12 years old are invited to come to the Newton Centre Bowl and show off their Patriotic style with tons of fun offerings and activities.
- 2026 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular: The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular returns to the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade for its 52nd year on Saturday, July 4, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. ET. Led by legendary conductor Keith Lockhart, the Pops concert welcomes three very special guest artists.
- Somerville Fireworks at Trum Field (June 30): The event will include live music from a Somerville High School alumni band and a local DJ, remarks from Mayor Jake Wilson, and a classic fireworks display.
- Melrose Morning Bike and Carraige Parade at the Common: A procession of decorated bikes, wagons, carriages, scooters, skateboards, and other custom rides will depart at 10 a.m. at 82 Laurel St. before an hour of festivities that includes face painting, music, games, activities, and crafts.
- Melrose 4th of July Concert By Middlesex Concert Band: The concert takes place on the lawn beside the clubhouse at Mt. Hood, the city's public golf course. The event concludes with a "Parade of Children" flag march while the band plays 'Stars and Stripes" Forever.
- Malden Fourth On The Fellsway: Organized by Ward 3 City Councilor Amanda Linehan, this three-hour family event is back by popular demand features music, catered food from Pearl Street Station, games, balloon animals, face paint, a tropical slip n' slide, a gigantic bouncy castle, a big kahuna water slide, and a double inflatable basketball shootout, plus hot dogs, veggie burgers, and an ice cream truck
Celebrations around the country recall not only the events leading up to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, but also look forward and aim to make the 4th of July weekend a massive, multigenerational cultural moment focused on community connections and charitable giving.

A Times Square Ball Drop, a rolling series of ball drops, timed to occur at midnight on July 3 in every U.S. time zone from Guam to American Samoa, is part of the “Giving 4th Broadcast Benefit Show,” creating a nearly 24-hour celebration of the 250th anniversary. It’s part of the broader “Giving 4th” initiative that aims to make and establish Independence Day the biggest annual day of giving.
A time capsule will be buried in Philadelphia to be opened in 2276 on July 4. It contains a carefully curated collection of letters and artifacts reflecting the leadership, institutions, and communities that shape the country today. It will include contributions from all three branches of the U.S. federal government and submissions from each of the 50 states, Washington D.C., and five territories.
Separately, the White House’s Freedom 250’s biggest spectacles are the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, running June 25 to July 10; the July 4 Salute to America Fireworks, also on the National Mall; “Sail 4th 250,” billed as the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world in New York Harbor; and Rushmore 250, an iconic 4th of July fireworks on July 3 alongside military concerts and live presidential reenactors.
