Join John Hicks, guitar, Cammy Kaynor, fiddle, and Rose Sheehan, caller for a fun evening of good tunes, movement, connection and community at MAGMA Gloucester on Saturday, June 25, 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM.

Contra dancing is a high-energy, social American folk tradition. No fancy footwork or prior experience is required.

Contra enhances physical well-being and human connections simultaneously. Once the music starts, you'll find yourself immersed in the flow of the dance, in sync with a room full of people, sharing the joy of the moment.

Our community dance highlights dances that are easy to learn and especially geared to those who may be attending a contra dance for the first time.

Each dance is carefully taught. Wear comfortable shoes and casual clothes. Water bottles are recommended.

Please note that MAGMA has a Marley floor, a specialized vinyl that naturally has a lot of built-in grip. Because this floor is naturally "sticky," wearing shoes with too much traction can cause your feet to stick and put undue strain on knees and ankles. Instead wear clean, non-grippy, low-tread shoes with smooth soles (like worn sneakers, suede, or soft leather). You want just enough glide to counter the floor's natural grip. Socks or bare feet work great too!

We're geared to be inclusive of all ages. Come by yourself or with friends - no partner nor experience needed!

Suggested Contribution: $15-$25, under 16 years-FREE
No one turned away for lack of funds
