BOSTON, MA — A new New York-style pizza shop is set to open in Boston’s Seaport next week, bringing oversized slices, deli sandwiches and soft serve to one of the city’s busiest waterfront neighborhoods.

Sugar’s Hot Pizza, from the team behind nearby restaurant Stubbys, will officially open May 15 at 29 Northern Ave. WS Development announced Thursday.

The casual walk-in pizza shop will serve pizza by the slice and whole pies, along with deli-style sandwiches and desserts in a laid-back setting designed for quick visits and repeat customers.

“Sugar’s is about keeping it simple,” owner Saugat Mali said in a statement. “We’ve spent the last few years getting to know the Seaport community through Stubbys, and one thing we heard again and again was that people wanted a true slice shop. This is our take on that, a place where you can walk in, grab a big slice, and know exactly what you’re getting every time.”

The restaurant’s name came from a recurring autocorrect mishap that frequently changed “Saugat” to “Sugar,” according to the announcement.

The menu will focus on New York-style pizza, including classic cheese and pepperoni slices alongside specialty pies like the Vodka Sauce pie topped with chicken cutlets and The Green Marnster, made with pesto, garlic aioli, mozzarella and tomato.

Another featured option, Hot Stuff, includes jalapeño, capicola, red onion and hot honey.

Sugar’s will also offer rotating specialty slices, including a “Jerk Slice” inspired by Stubbys’ Jamaican jerk chicken flavors.

Beyond pizza, the shop plans to serve deli-style sandwiches inspired by Walter’s Deli, the team’s sister restaurant on Nantucket. Sandwich options include The Godfather, loaded with salami, capicola, pepperoni and provolone, and The New Yorker with turkey, pastrami, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing.

Desserts will include soft serve ice cream, oversized chocolate chip cookies and brownie sundaes.

The restaurant will seat about 20 guests indoors, with additional seasonal outdoor seating available. Large accordion-style windows will open into the courtyard plaza near Stubbys, and the shop will feature a community Polaroid wall.

“Sugar’s brings something essential to Seaport,” Ariel Foxman, area vice president of brand and experience for Boston Seaport by WS Development, said in a statement. “Great pizza places have a way of becoming part of the daily rhythm of a neighborhood, somewhere people return to again and again.”

Sugar’s will host a sneak preview during Seaport’s AAPI Give Back Day on May 13 before officially opening on May 15.

The shop plans to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with expanded late-night weekend hours planned later. Delivery service through food delivery apps is expected to launch on June 1.
