Brookline Police Offer Entrance Exam For Prospective Officers

The hiring process is expected to begin in July.

BROOKLINE, MA — The police department will hold an entrance examination for police officer candidates on Saturday, July 25, for individuals interested in joining the department.

The exam will begin at 8 a.m. at the Brookline High School Freshman Building, located at 22 Tappan St. Applicants also have the option of taking the examination remotely. Interested candidates must create an account on the website and select Brookline as one of their preferred departments for the department to receive their profile.

The hiring process is expected to begin shortly after July 25, according to the department.

To help prospective applicants prepare, the department is offering voluntary physical fitness practice sessions and assessments. Participation is not required, but the sessions are intended to help candidates evaluate their readiness for the physical fitness test that selected applicants must later pass as part of the hiring process.

Practice sessions will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20 and June 27. Applicants interested in attending must email Sgt. Chris Malinn by June 18 for the June 20 session or by Thursday, June 25 for the June 27 session. Registrants should include their age and gender in their email.

The department is also hosting two informational sessions for individuals interested in learning more about the agency and its hiring process. The sessions will be held at the Town of Brookline Public Safety Building on Saturday, June 27, at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, July 8, at 6 p.m.

The salary range for Brookline patrol officers ranges from $83,159 to $133,463, depending on education level. Officers may also qualify for additional educational incentives, overtime training pay, and detail opportunities.
