A Spectacular Chinese Dance Showcase Celebrating FJW Dance Studio’s 10th Anniversary

Passion, politics, and pulse-pounding rhythm collide! Martín Palmeri’s “Misatango” electrifies the Latin Mass with fiery Argentinian “new tango,” blending chorus, bandoneón, and strings in a bold, emotional ride that has energized audiences on several continents. By embedding tango’s harmonic language, rhythms, and melodic designs in the orchestra, Palmeri frees the chorus to simply “sing the Mass”, plunging the audience into a world of uplifting emotions, passion, and syncopation.
Opening the concert is Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah by Alberto Ginastera, an intense work written in exile in 1946. Setting Latin texts from the Book of Lamentations and with dissonant harmonies, jagged rhythms, and stark contrasts, Ginasteri’s music expresses profound sorrow and spiritual desolation.
Adding to the verve of the Latin American program are scintillating dance performances by Boston-based tangueros, curated by bandoneonist Alex Roitman and accompanied by a tango instrumental ensemble. After a long and harsh winter, spring invites us to gather again in warmth and light. Join us for “To Gather in Love,” a special concert presented by the Oasis Music Series, featuring an exceptional group of musicians connected by their love of timeless classical music. The program explores themes of love and unity across centuries, with works by Handel, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Gershwin, and Prokofiev, along with the world premiere of “Emerald Sea” by Eunji Lee for viola and cello. From the elegance of classical masterworks to the expressive energy of modern compositions, this evening offers a rich and uplifting experience of music and harmony. The concert also features a special raffle at the end of the evening. The concert is free and open to all.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Diego brings a bilingual, multicultural ministry shaped by migration, spirituality, and the arts. The Brookline Interfaith Clergy, the Newton Clergy and ministers from the Greater Boston area will be there.&nbsp;

What if a fuzzy hand puppet could make you face your own humanity and reconcile with a tragic and horrific past? Mr. Vernon Watercress cordially invites you — yes, you — to an evening of some old-fashioned sass with class, with a splash of sung standards. It wouldn’t be fun if we just told you exactly who’s coming and what’s going to happen… But, rest assured, nothing — and we mean nothing! — will interrupt our performance, not even fascist religious types! Expect a night of jazz standards, Broadway numbers, and a few existential questions about who we are and where we’re going — all wrapped up in one unforgettable evening.&nbsp;
“Award-winning loudmouth” and “bipolar roller” Nate Puppets uses foam, fur, and hot glue to assemble their deranged yet vividly compelling cast of characters, casting light on the human condition while cruising through experiences with mental health diagnoses, disability, and pure unadulterated creative mayhem.

Embark on a whimsical journey through the mesmerizing cycle of water! This heartwarming story is centered around a single, endearing water droplet and its journey through the water cycle. With the guidance of a compassionate rainmaker, this tiny droplet embarks on an adventure, beginning high up among the clouds, before gracefully descending down to the earth. This immersive sensory production is brought to life with live baroque guitar music!
Stay after the show to meet the artists and see the puppets up close! Plus, join us in the lobby for a craft inspired by the show, and enjoy dress-up station, coloring sheets, bubbles, and sidewalk chalk! These activities are available after every performance, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm. All ages welcome, especially enjoyed by ages 0 - 6.
