Cambridge Glassware Shop Expanding To Brookline

BROOKLINE, MA — A Cambridge glassware and artisan goods shop is opening its second location in Brookline.

Glass Ripples is planning to open a new store at 305 Harvard St. in Coolidge Corner. The business announced the expansion on social media, saying the new location will offer more space, artists, and workshops. An exact opening date has not been announced.

"We're opening a new store in Brookline! More space, more artists, more workshops, and so much more," the business said in a statement.

Glass Ripples owner Sifan Wu opened the shop's first location at 200 Elm St. near Davis Square in 2024. The business combines a home goods and gift shop with a glass-fusing studio and sells glassware, ceramics, dinnerware, vintage pieces, and other items from artists and designers around the world.

Wu, who previously worked in marketing and management in the performing arts sector, told the Boston Globe in 2024 that opening a store had been a long-term goal. She said she wanted Glass Ripples to serve as a one-stop shop for gifts and home goods that would encourage customers to bring more creativity into their homes.

Wu previously studied arts management at Columbia University in New York, according to a SOME publication. The idea for Glass Ripples grew in part from her interest in collecting glassware and from seeing artists creating ceramics in home studios during the COVID-19 pandemic. After moving from New York to the Boston area, Wu said she also saw an opportunity to create a space where smaller artists could display and sell their work. Wu and her wife, Emily, spent about seven months renovating the Elm Street storefront themselves before it opened.

The Cambridge store was designed as both a retail and creative space, with part of the shop dedicated to glass-fusing workshops. Glass Ripples currently offers two-hour workshops where participants learn the basics of designing, cutting, layering, and kiln-firing glass to make projects including coasters, magnets, and plates. The workshops include more than 100 glass colors and accessories and are limited to six participants.

The shop also carries an assortment of home goods and gifts from independent artists and established brands. The Boston Globe described the store's selection as including hand-painted coasters, Italian plates, glassware, bowls, candles, and other home goods from artisans around the world.

The space at 305 Harvard St. has been previously occupied by Boston General Store.

Glass Ripples' Cambridge location will remain at 200 Elm St. The business has not announced an exact opening date for its Brookline store.
