MARGIE PALLADINO for Governor’s Council: One Vote. One Choice. September 1st.

On September 1st, voters in Governor’s Council District 3 have an important choice.

The Governor’s Council helps determine who will serve as judges across Massachusetts. Those decisions can profoundly affect children, families and domestic violence survivors.

That makes experience, independence, credibility and judgment matter.

MARGIE PALLADINO BRINGS ALL FOUR.

Margie Palladino is not new to the law or the courts.

She is a former trial attorney, former partner at a Boston law firm, and has Supreme Judicial Court experience.

She is also the co-founder and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Family Advocacy Coalition (MFAC), a grassroots organization dedicated to family-court reform and advocacy.

Her advocacy did not begin with this election.

For years, Palladino has worked with families, advocates and policymakers to advance fairness, justice and meaningful family-court reform.

Through her family-court advocacy, work surrounding the Massachusetts coercive-control law, and amicus briefs she has authored, her efforts have reached far beyond one courtroom or one family.

Her focus is systemic change for thousands of families throughout the Commonwealth.

ONE VOTE BROUGHT A BIGGER QUESTION INTO FOCUS.

The Governor’s Council’s 4–3 vote to confirm Mary Ferriter to the Probate and Family Court sparked serious concern among hundreds of domestic-violence survivors and family-court advocates throughout the Commonwealth, particularly surrounding Ferriter’s prior involvement with a court-ordered parenting program.

Governor’s Councilor Mara Dolan voted in favor of the nomination and has defended that decision.

That raises a question that goes beyond one nominee:

When a Governor’s Councilor is also an actively practicing attorney within the Massachusetts court system, what safeguards should exist to protect public confidence in the judicial appointment process?

This is not an accusation that Dolan violated a law or ethics rule.

It is a question about trust, transparency and the appearance of independence.

And voters have every right to consider that question when deciding who should help select Massachusetts judges.
