Essex County Sheriff Honors 7 Staff After Facility Medical Emergency

MIDDLETON, MA — The Essex County Sheriff's Department honored seven employees for their response to a recent medical emergency inside one of its facilities.

The department named Sgt. Jennifer Walsh, Sgt. Ryan Smith, Officer Jann Rodriguez, Officer Emil Steeves, Registered Nurse Jessica Jalbert, Health Services Administrator Elizabeth Veno and Officer Grady Holt as recognition recipients.

The employees were celebrated for their actions during the incident and for helping maintain care and operations inside the facility. The department said the response showed coordination across custody and health services staff during an emergency situation.

The department said the employees' "calm, decisive actions, seamless teamwork, and commitment to preserving life reflect the highest standards of professionalism and service."

The department said Sgt. Walsh, Sgt. Smith, Officer Rodriguez, Officer Steeves and Nurse Jalbert received Letters of Recognition for their lifesaving efforts. Health Services Administrator Veno and Officer Holt received Letters of Appreciation for what the department described as "their vital support in maintaining operations and ensuring continuity of care throughout the incident."

"Thanks to their quick response and coordinated efforts, they demonstrated exactly what it means to be prepared when it matters most," the department said.
