Essex Tech Touts Lowest Per-Pupil Cost Among MA Vocational Schools

DANVERS, MA — Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School has the lowest per-pupil cost among agricultural and vocational schools in Massachusetts, according to Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education end-of-year FY25 data.

The district said it also ranks fifth-lowest in per-pupil cost when compared with the school districts in its member communities, according to the same 2025 figures.

Essex Tech said the ranking reflects ongoing efforts to manage costs while continuing to offer academic, agricultural and technical programs.

The comparison is based on 2025 per-pupil spending, which the district identified as the most recent figures available. Essex Tech said it regularly reviews spending and looks for efficiencies while maintaining the programs and services that support students.

"We are grateful for the investment our member communities make in Essex Tech, and we work hard to be responsible with every dollar," Superintendent Heidi Riccio said. "Our goal is to manage costs carefully while continuing to give our students the academic, technical, and hands-on experiences that prepare them for what comes next. Finding that balance is important to us and to those we serve.

"We are proud of the value Essex Tech provides to our communities and taxpayers."

Essex Tech also said it remains focused on making thoughtful financial decisions that provide students with a comprehensive education while respecting the investment of its member communities.

The district said it will continue to keep its communities informed about district finances and how resources are used to support students and learning.
