North Shore Brewing Family Matriarch Celebrates 100th Birthday With Specialty Beer
Twisted Fate Brewing Co. of Danvers honored Mary Skafas with Mary Skafas 100 Saison.
DANVERS, MA — A North Shore brewery brought that family's matriarch together with her two dozen grandkids and great-grandkids to celebrate her 100th birthday with a specialty beer in her honor this weekend.
Twisted Fate Brewing Co. co-owner Erica Fritta told Patch that Mary Skafas 100 is a saison-style ale with ingredients chosen to honor her love of different teas — orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg and lavender.
"Saisons have been brewed for summer enjoyment for years," Fritta told Patch. "With an August birthday, it seemed like the perfect choice to honor Mary! "

The beer's label includes a photo of Mary celebrating her 96th birthday in the Danvers taproom four years ago.
Skafas' grandkids, Kim McNamara and Dave Pinette, are also co-owners of the brewery with locations in Danvers and Revere.

She has two children, 11 grandkids and 13 great-grandkids.
