Two Local Farms Launch Innovative “Farmers Market CSA” to Strengthen Local Food System

Silverwood Organic Farm brings multiple local farms together under one roof, offering a wider variety in one simple weekly pickup.

A new kind of CSA is taking root in Sherborn - and it’s designed to support not just one farm, but many.

Silverwood Organic Farm has partnered with Red Fire Farm to introduce a collaborative, community-focused CSA model that brings together multiple local farms under one roof, offering a wider variety of fresh, local food while strengthening the region’s agricultural network.

This new approach, described by Silverwood as a “farmers market CSA,” combines the best aspects of traditional CSA programs with the diversity and flexibility of a farmers market.

“We think of this as a farmers market CSA,” said Lisa Hodson-Walker, co-owner of Silverwood Organic Farm. “Instead of customers having to piece together their food week by week, we have curated it for them, bringing together incredible local farms and what they each do best into one seamless, weekly experience.”

Through the partnership, Red Fire Farm - known for its diverse certified organic vegetable production - will provide the core weekly vegetable shares. Silverwood Organic Farm will contribute seasonal specialty crops such as garlic, herbs, and other farm favorites grown in Sherborn.

In addition, the CSA offers a range of optional add-on shares sourced from local producers, including:

·Mushrooms from Mycoterra Farm

·Fruit from local orchards, select organic and IPM-grown (Integrated Pest Management) offerings from local farms such as Cold Spring Orchard, Warner Farm, Sobieski's River Valley Farm, Clark Brothers Orchards

·Eggs from Wingate Farm

·Coffee from regional roasters including Esselon Café, Dean’s Beans, YUP Coffee, No. Six Depot, and Equal Exchange

·Cheese from local creameries including Smith's Country Cheese, Maplebrook Farm, Chaseholm Farm Creamery, and Round Table Farm

·Pantry goods from local artisans such as Real Pickles, Harvest Maine, Ground Up Grain, Farmer Ground, Sunfox Farm, and Side Hill Cider Mill

“This model allows each of our farms to focus on what we do best while working together to serve the community,” said Sarah Voiland, co-owner of Red Fire Farm.
“It’s a collaborative approach that strengthens local agriculture, and makes it easier for people to access fresh, high-quality food from farms they trust.”

Why This Model Matters

Good for Farmers

CSA programs provide farms with upfront funding at the start of the growing season, when expenses like seeds, equipment, and labor are highest. This model expands that benefit across multiple farms while improving efficiency and reducing waste.

Good for Consumers

Members receive ultra-fresh, seasonal produce harvested locally at peak flavor, along with the experience of visiting the farm each week. The curated model removes the guesswork of shopping while introducing new foods and local products.

Good for the Environment

Locally grown food significantly reduces transportation distance compared to conventional grocery supply chains. Organic and sustainable practices also support soil health, ecosystems, and long-term land preservation.

A Community-Centered Experience

Weekly pickup takes place at Silverwood Organic Farm’s classic red barn in Sherborn, offering members a chance to connect directly with their food and the people who grow it.

The farm is also expanding its role as a community gathering space, with new educational programming and events planned for the upcoming season, further strengthening its mission of connecting people to local agriculture.

“This is about more than food,” added Hodson-Walker. “It’s about supporting local farms, preserving farmland, and building something sustainable that can continue to serve and connect the community week after week, year after year.”

CSA shares are now available for the 2026 season.
