Waquoit Congregational Church

Two Oscar nominated short films on immigration and Hate kick off our 2026 film and discussion series. The first, A-Lien portrays the chaos and cruelty that results after a young man is detained and separated from his family when he presents himself for a green card interview. The second, Stranger at the Gate, explores what happens when an ex-Marine plans a Muslim Mosque attack and is unexpectedly welcomed by those he targets. Sandy Faiman-Silva of the Falmouth Immigrant Rights Coalition will lead the discussion after the film.Movies That Matter is supported by the MASS Cultural Council and Falmouth Cultural Council. A-Lien follows a young man separated from his family. Stanger at the Gate explores the story of an ex-marine who's welcomed by the Muslim community he's targeted for hate. In partnership with Calliope Poetry, we are so pleased to once again host the Favorite Poem Project on Sunday, April 26 3-5 p.m. Join us in hearing community members from all walks of life share their favorite poem and what makes it special to them.
About the Favorite Poem Project: At its inception, the Favorite Poem Project put out an open call for people across the country to share their favorite poems. Eighteen thousand Americans—from ages 5 to 97, from every state, representing a range of occupations, kinds of education, and backgrounds—wrote to the project. From those thousands of letters and emails, the Favorite Poem Project created a series of short documentaries and anthologies. The project continues to create short films and educational resources, and to host readings, in order to document and encourage the sharing of poetry across the world.

Sea Stars Early Learning Center

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. There’s a focus on developmental milestones, including fine motor skills, communication, and social interaction. The facility focuses on helping children develop strong social skills through group activities, games, and cooperative learning. There’s an emphasis on emotional intelligence, teaching kids how to manage their feelings and resolve conflicts peacefully. Our amazing helps kids learn to share, collaborate, and support one another, fostering a sense of community. The facility embraces children from all backgrounds and is sensitive to cultural differences, making sure all children feel accepted and valued. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
