Christian Gonzalez Agrees To 4-Year, $135 Million Contract Extension With New England Patriots, Reports Say

Christian Gonzalez and the New England Patriots have finally agreed to a massive contract extension after an offseason standstill.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported early Tuesday morning that the star cornerback and the Patriots have agreed to a four-year extension valued at $135 million. Schultz reported that the contract includes $102 million guaranteed. Ian Rapoport of ESPN and NFL Network later confirmed the deal as well.

With an average annual value of $33.75 million a year, Gonzalez is now the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. This is the first re-signing of a first-round draft pick for the Patriots since Dont'a Hightower in 2012, according to WBZ-TV's Dan Roche.
