Former Patriot Stefon Diggs' Assault Trial Begins: Report

Jury selection began Monday morning.

DEDHAM, MA — Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs arrived in Dedham District Court Monday for jury selection of his assault trial, according to a report from WCVB NewsCenter 5.

The charges stem from a reported occurrence on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, one day after the Patriots defeated the New York Giants in a primetime matchup. The accuser made the report with Dedham Police on Tuesday, Dec. 16 accusing Diggs of slapping her across the face and eventually strangling her with the crook of his elbow at his home. The woman worked as a chef for Diggs and the two got into a dispute over payment.

Diggs’ arraignment came five days after the Patriots lost Super Bowl LX to the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 13. He pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation or suffocation along with misdemeanor assault and battery charge. The prosecution said it plans to call two witnesses, the chef herself and a police officer. The defense said it will call people who were inside the house at the time of the alleged assault.

The Patriots released the 32-year-old in early March after just one season with the organization. Diggs had a very productive 2025 regular season, in which he became the team's primary pass-catcher totaling 85 receptions for more than 1,000 yards after tearing his ACL in 2024. He has yet to sign with a new team for 2026.

Diggs was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Maryland by the Minnesota Vikings. He has put together a borderline-hall-of-fame career throughout the last decade playing for four organizations. The Maryland native is a father of six. His most recent child, whom he shares with rapper Cardi B, was born in November.
