After Decades Of Investigation, Framingham Rape Case Heads To Trial: Report

Jury selection is scheduled to start Tuesday for the trial of a man accused of raping two women inside a Route 9 clothing store.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Trial begins Tuesday for a man accused of raping two women at gunpoint here 36 years ago.

Jury selection will start tomorrow at Middlesex County Superior Court in the trial of Stephen Paul Gale, the MetroWest Daily News reported.

On Dec. 27, 1989, prosecutors claim, Gale entered a now-defunct clothing store on Route 9, Hit-or-Miss, where he forced the two employees into separate back rooms and raped each woman. He then stole cash from the store and escaped.

The case was cold for decades – until investigators using DNA information identified Gale as a suspect and arrested him in Los Angeles two years ago.

Gale, now 72, has pleaded not guilty to charges in Massachusetts of aggravated rape, kidnapping and armed robbery. To read the MetroWest Daily News story, click here.
