Framingham Community Rises Up Against $3.2 Million in Last Minute School System Budget Cuts: Showdown Tonight
Residents can join the opposition to the Mayor/City Council driven cuts by attending the finance showdown meeting at 5pm on Tuesday, May 26.

Notice:
The finance showdown will happen at a joint meeting of the City Council Finance Subcommittee and the School Committee Finance & Operations Subcommittee on Tuesday, May 26 at 5pm at City Hall. Every resident, who is concerned about the threat to the school system, should be there to listen and advocate for no further budget cuts to the schools. What was also importance about that meeting was the strong presence of local residents, who are resuming the publicly voiced support for strong schools which began to develop in the School Committee meetings leading up to School Committee approval of the Framingham Public Schools FY27 budget on March 4, 2026.
Here are some clips from the City Council Finance Subcommittee May 20 meeting, showing that rising community voice:

There is a major opportunity to help reinforce this growing community engagement, to ensure that another $3.2 million in last minute cuts, engineered by the Mayor and City Council Finance Subcommittee, don't come to fruition.
More cuts at that scale would drive the school system deeper into trouble, with student performance tanking, and hundreds of experienced teachers having already quit, due to eroding classroom support caused by years of reduced local funding for education.
A first round of $4.8 million in budget cuts are already built into the FY27 budget the School Committee approved on March 4, 2026, almost 3 months ago.
Here is an article which summarized how bad things were with that round of cuts:

How can the school system take even more punishment?
There is a major feeling in the community that something is really wrong with school system funding and that the Mayor and City Council are a big part of that problem.
Please turn up to the meeting this evening at 5pm to voice your opinion, stop this late breaking round of $3.2 million in school system budget cuts, and make funding education properly a priority in the city.
