HOPKINTON, MA — Drivers in Hopkinton and Westborough should plan to avoid Route 135 Friday afternoon due to a downed utility pole that has closed the road. A car crashed into the pole near 2 p.m. in the vicinity of 353 Wood St., which is between the Mass Pike overpass and the Whitehall State Park. According to a picture tweeted by Hopkinton firefighters, the car had snapped the pole at its base, and the pole was leaning slightly over the roadway.

Event for National POW/MIA Day in Framingham
September 14, 2026 - The United States’ National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed across the nation on the third Friday of September each year. The date this year is Friday, September 18th. Many Americans take the time to remember those who are missing in action and still not home as well as their families. 
National POW/MIA Recognition Day is not a federal public holiday in the United States but it is a national observance.
Americans across our country pause to remember the sacrifices and service of those who were prisoners of war (POW), as well as those who are still missing in action (MIA), and their families. All military installations fly the National League of Families’ POW/MIA flag, which symbolizes the nation’s remembrance of those who were imprisoned while serving in conflicts and those who remain missing.
In observance of this day we will hold gather on Friday, September 18th at our Vietnam Soldiers Statute, at the MWRTA Station, 15 Blandin Ave, Framingham, at 6:30PM. 
There are 1,565 service members nationwide still listed as MIA. Of those, 39 are from Massachusetts. We will be honoring each of those brave men, who gave all in service to their country, by reading their names in remembrance of those 39 from Massachusetts. 
The National League of Families’ POW/MIA flag symbolizes the United States’ resolve to never forget POW/MIAs or those who served their country in conflicts and are still missing. 
In capital letters on that flag are the words: “You Are Not Forgotten”.&nbsp;Please join us for this solemn and important event as we live up to those words.

On Sunday, September 20th, Sudbury will host our third inaugural <a href="https://kids.pmc.org/sudbury" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride</a>.&nbsp;Our ride is a 1-mile loop that riders may enjoy as long as they would like. The one mile course is entirely paved and loops through the beautiful residential neighborhoods of historic Sudbury. Parents are welcome to ride with their children but it is not required. If a parent chooses to accompany their child on the bike, we ask that they register as volunteers.&nbsp;
Many kids choose to ride the loop 3-6-12 or even 15 times. We encourage riders to participate as long as they would like. We will have special badges for riders who accomplish 5-8-12 and 15 miles, too! Please indicate at registration an estimate of your rider's total distance (this will help us for event organization).&nbsp;There is also an enclosed parking lot loop all starting from Curtis Middle School in Sudbury, MA. (Adults may opt to register as volunteers if they would like to ride with the kids). Before the ride there will be music and bike decorating; during the ride and following there will be an Ice-Cream Truck, Food Truck, Coffee Truck, huge bouncy castle, lawn games, music and more. All registered riders will get a free ice cream from our friends at Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream. Registration takes place from 8:30am-9:45am. The ride is from 10:00am-11:30am, and food and games will be available from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
“The Pan-Mass Challenge is a Massachusetts-based bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Always held the first weekend in August, the PMC raises funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research. Each summer, thousands of riders and volunteers from 43 states and 12 countries participate in the PMC, all with a common goal: to find a cure for cancer.
100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest supporter and is 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana-Farber.”
The Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride empowers young participants to contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a fun activity. By offering multiple course options, every child will have the opportunity to participate and make a difference - regardless of age or ability. Each ride distance is carefully planned to be safe and enjoyable, with designated routes through historic Sudbury neighborhoods that are well-marked and closely monitored by volunteers. For the youngest participants, the tot lot loop provides a secure environment where kids can ride in a contained area - strollers, scooters, tricycles are ALL welcome!
Beyond the joy of bike riding, the Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride serves as a powerful educational experience for children, teaching them about the impact of collective efforts in fighting cancer. As they pedal for a purpose, they learn about empathy, community involvement, and the importance of supporting breakthroughs in treatment and cures at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This event not only raises crucial funds for cancer research but also instills valuable life lessons in the young riders; collectively we all pedal towards a more cancer-free future. As with all PMC rides, every penny donated goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber.
