The  <a href="https://www.facebook.com/friendsofmarbleheadcoa/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Friends of the Marblehead Council on Aging</a> will feature delicious apps, a cocktail bar, as well as live entertainment, hosted trivia and door prizes at no extra cost! Funds raised will support the Council on Aging (entertainment, excursions, nutrition programs).  Ticket can be purchased online at <a href="https://bit.ly/fmcoa2026" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">https://bit.ly/fmcoa2026</a>! Tickets can also be purchased in person at the COA on Humphrey St on April 14 and 15, 9:30-1pm.  They are $25 advance (in person or online) and a limited number of tickets will be $30 at door.

Join ancient civilization expert and National Geographic photographer Kenneth Garrett as he explores the cutting-edge technology that continues to reveal new insights into King Tut’s world. From CT scans of Tut’s mummy to DNA studies of his family tree and ground-penetrating radar used to examine his burial chamber, you’ll discover how modern advancements are reshaping our understanding of ancient Egypt.
A viewing of the online lecture will be held in the Event Center at Abbot Public Library, followed by a discussion session.

Kenneth Garrett is a photographer specializing in the origin of civilization. He grew up in a world of photographers and spent his childhood traveling in Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and the continental United States. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be a photographer. After 46 years of working in photography for National Geographic on all seven continents, Garrett has honed his story-telling abilities while embracing the new possibilities that digital photography has enabled. Egypt is one of his main specialties.

Lectures with Road Scholar: King Tut’s Secrets - Uncovering New Clues Through Technology

On Monday, April 27, Abbot Public Library continues its Open Mic series, inviting the community to share their writings. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, this is a chance to connect with your community. You can prepare a short story or a nonfiction prose piece. At each gathering, we’ll welcome a featured reader, after which the mic will be open to the first 10 people who sign up. Readers are asked to keep readings to five minutes or less. Beverly Pierce will lead off the April session.
The Open Mic will be hosted by Claire Keyes, a celebrated poet and Professor Emerita at Salem State University. Light refreshments will be served following the readings.

The Marblehead Conservancy invites all members, friends, and others to its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. featuring a presentation on “The Secret Lives of Native Bees” by guest speaker Dr. Nick Dorian.
You’ve probably heard “Save The Bees!,” but do you know which bees need saving? In this talk, Dr. Nick Dorian explains why it's native bees, not honey bees, that deserve our attention. There are over 4,000 species of native bees in North America, and they come in every size, shape, and color you can imagine. Drawing on a decade of his own research, including pollinator surveys at Lead Mills Conservation Area, Dorian will reveal the secret lives of native bees and the intricate relationships they have with flowering plants and other insects. You’ll come away with clear action items for how ecologically-informed land stewardship can help these important pollinators.

Dr. Nick Dorian is a pollinator ecologist, consultant, and speaker. Through engaging and educational programs on pollinators and native plants, Dorian enchants audiences nationwide, helping people connect to nature starting in their backyards and gardens. As an award-winning consultant, Dorian brings science-backed insights to enhance green space for both people and pollinators. His work has been featured in leading academic journals, and in venues like USA Today, CBS News, The Boston Globe, and on the Tedx stage. He received his Ph.D. in Biology from Tufts University and is currently based in Orleans, Massachusetts.
This event is co-hosted by Abbot Public Library and Marblehead Conservancy.

Protect your personal information at “MarbleShred,” our bi-annual FREE community shredding event! Come to Marblehead Bank, 21 Atlantic Avenue, on Saturday, May 2nd, from 9:00 am to 12 noon to safely destroy old documents that could put your identity at risk. Shred-It® Document Shredding will be there to shred your papers securely on premises and recycle them afterwards at their facility. This is a fantastic opportunity to clean out your home and protect your privacy! 
Please no cardboard, food waste, paper plates or paper towels.
Additionally, a food drive will be held by the bank to support the Marblehead Food Pantry. Make a difference in someone's life by contributing to our bi-annual food drive. During the shredding event, we will be collecting donations of non-perishable food, paper goods, and toiletries as well as cash and check donations. If you cannot make it but would like to donate, we collect Food Pantry donations year-round in our branches.
The event will be held rain or shine. We hope to see you there!
