The event is built around a milestone for one of the area’s longstanding community arts groups. The "spark of inspiration" for what became Marblehead Little Theatre began in 1955 with members of the drama committee of the Marblehead Woman's Club.

The group was led by Terry Hale and grew from local interest in expanding theater opportunities in and around Marblehead. The Marblehead Little Theatre is now one of the oldest community theatre groups in New England, and one of the few to have continually produced shows each year.
The theater is led by an all-volunteer board of directors, and each director heads at least one subcommittee overseeing administrative functions of the theater and its productions.
