Marblehead Woman Honored At State House Latino Excellence Event

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The North Shore legislative delegation honored Maria Torres of Marblehead as part of this year's Latino Excellence on the Hill awardees.

The honorees were recognized during a State House ceremony on Sept. 24.

The three nominees were Edwin Cabrera of Lynn, Sarai Zelada of Lynn, and Torres of Marblehead. Each year, the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus hosts a celebration of trailblazers and leaders across the Commonwealth who are positively impacting their communities.

"Each of our nominees are examples of individuals who go above and beyond in their community, and we are proud to honor their accomplishments here at the State House," said State Sen. Brendan Crighton (D-Lynn).

Torres is a Puerto Rican entrepreneur and owner of Maria’s Gourmet and Fine Foods in Marblehead. Her family-run business offers homemade meals, baked goods, catering and hospitality rooted in Puerto Rican, Caribbean and American cuisine.

"Maria Torres has built more than a successful business — she has created places where people feel welcome and connected," State Rep. Jenny Armini (D-Marblehead) said. "Her entrepreneurial spirit, warmth, and commitment shine through in everything she does. I'm proud to recognize Maria's accomplishments and the positive impact she has made across our communities."
