Marlborough Medical Device Company Plans Restructuring, Job Cuts
The company expects to cut costs, adjust its supply chain and align staffing with strategic priorities.
MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough-based medical device company is preparing a global restructuring plan that is expected to include some job cuts.
Boston Scientific's board approved the 2026 Restructuring Plan on July 21 to cut costs, adjust its supply chain and align staffing with strategic priorities, according to a form filed with the SEC.
The company said the plan will include supply chain optimization, including the transfer of some production lines among facilities, as well as “targeted functional transformation” and changes to its organizational structure, according to the filing.

Boston Scientific said it expects some headcount reductions as part of the restructuring. The filing does not say how many jobs may be cut or whether any Marlborough employees will be affected.
The company also expects restructuring activities to begin in 2026 and be substantially completed by the end of 2029, according to the SEC filing.

Boston Scientific estimated the plan will result in $700 million to $800 million in total pre-tax charges. That includes $300 million to $350 million in transfer costs, $275 million to $300 million in termination benefits and $125 million to $150 million in other costs, according to the filing.
The company said the restructuring is expected to reduce annual pre-tax expenses by about $500 million as the benefits are realized. A substantial portion of the savings is expected to be reinvested in strategic growth initiatives, according to the filing.
Boston Scientific's world headquarters are located at 300 Boston Scientific Way in Marlborough and the company has about 59,000 employees worldwide.
The restructuring disclosure came before Boston Scientific reported second-quarter net sales of $5.442 billion, up 7.5 percent from the same period last year, according to a company earnings release Wednesday.
