Marlborough Names New Assistant Fire Chief Of Operations

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A longtime Marlborough firefighter has been appointed to a new leadership position.

Mayor J. Christian Dumais announced Monday that Battalion Chief Michael Peckham has been appointed assistant fire chief of operations. He will fill the position formerly held by Chief Jeffrey Gogan, who took over as the city's fire chief in March after Kevin Breen retired in January following more than 10 years as chief.

Peckham has served in the Marlborough Fire Department for 35 years, rising from dispatcher and firefighter to fire lieutenant, fire captain and battalion chief. In his new role, he will help oversee the department’s operational needs.

“On behalf of the City of Marlborough, I am honored to appoint Michael Peckham as our next Assistant Fire Chief, where he will help lead the operational needs of the department and continue its tradition of exceptional service to our community,” Mayor Dumais said.

As battalion chief and shift commander, Peckham provided oversight for personnel across the city’s three fire stations, managed training, oversaw compliance and inspections and served as the department’s liaison for fire communications and state reporting requirements, the city said.

Peckham has also commanded crews during structure fires, technical rescues, major motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies and other high-risk incidents.
