Medfield Lions/MFD 5th Annual Golf Ball Drop Was A Great Success!

With the help of the Medfield Fire Department, the Medfield Lions proudly hosted the 5th Annual Golf Ball Drop on Sunday, April 26th at the Wheelock School grounds.

The Medfield Lions are deeply appreciative of the Medfield Fire Department for their continued support of this annual event. This year, we extend a special thank you to Captain Neil Kingsbury, Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Becker, Firefighter/Paramedic Patrick Dunn, and Firefighter/EMT Alex Tuckerman for their assistance and dedication.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who supported this event, the Medfield Lions “sold” more than 900 golf balls! Medfield Ladder Truck Engine 1 delivered the excitement by dropping the balls onto the field, where two winners were determined: one for closest to the pin (winning $400) and one for farthest from the pin (winning $100).

In the spirit of giving, the Medfield Lions have generously rounded up the proceeds and will donate $5,000 to the Blake Middle School Scholarship Fund. This contribution will help support students with the cost of the upcoming 8th-grade trip to Washington, D.C. and New York in May.

For many years, 8th grade students have had the opportunity to take part in an unforgettable field trip to both New York City and Washington, D.C. Highlights of the trip include visits to the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Memorial in New York, as well as the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the U.S. Capitol, and the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. For many students, this experience is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

However, the cost of the trip has risen to $1,535 per student, which can be a significant burden for some families. The Blake Middle School Scholarship Fund was established to help ease this financial strain by providing support to any family in need, ensuring that every student has the chance to participate in this extraordinary and meaningful educational experience.

Blake Middle School Principal, Nat Vaughn stated, "We are incredibly grateful to the Medfield Lions for their generosity and leadership in making this year’s Golf Ball Drop such a success. Their commitment to the Blake Scholarship Fund helps ensure that all of our students can share in meaningful experiences, including the 8th grade trip, regardless of financial circumstances. It’s a powerful reminder of what makes Medfield such a special community—people showing up for one another in tangible ways. We also extend our sincere thanks to the Medfield Fire Department for their partnership and assistance in bringing this event to life. On behalf of Blake Middle School, thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!"
