Dear Mayor Lungo-Koehn,
Last
night the City Council passed a resolution requesting you to fund the
legal defense of the Values-Aligned Local Investments Ordinance that was
passed last year. This resolution was supported by the overwhelming
Medford residents who testified at last night's meeting. I am now
following up on this request to urge you to support this resolution and
fund this defense.
As part of a group of Medford residents who are supporting this ordinance, I am respectfully requesting that you contact Rose Law Partners, LLP, which specializes
in defending local cities and communities in order to have them
litigate this lawsuit. Rose Law Partners is substantially smaller than
KP law, has lower overhead costs, and is already familiar with the
background of the Values-Aligned Investments Ordinance and the lawsuit
that was filed against our City, the City Council, and yourself. In
that capacity they have already offered a reduced hourly rate for their
defense, which could save our City a significant amount of money, as
compared with a large firm with a much larger overhead. Furthermore
this law firm would not be encumbered by previous opposition to the
Ordinance.
We would greatly
appreciate if you were to hire this law firm to handle the legal
defense of this ordinance, since it would demonstrate a dedication to
the democratic process, and the will of the voters, as well as a spirit
of open-mindedness in an ability to participate in following through to
support the will of the voters in spite of your opposition to
our Values-Based Investment Ordinance. We welcome your leadership and
look forward to working together with you in this effort.
Respectfully submitted,
Munir N. Jirmanus, Ph.D.Physicist - Educator
