Police emphasized that the crash highlights an ongoing issue in the community.

MILFORD, MA — A juvenile riding a bicycle was injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on East Main Street, according to police.
Milford police said the Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 6:29 p.m. reporting a crash involving a bicyclist near Hayward Street.
When officers arrived, they found the juvenile rider sitting on the side of the road, complaining of pain in his hand following the collision. He was later transported to Milford Regional Hospital with what authorities described as minor injuries, police said.

Police said the incident could have been far more serious.
“We’re fortunate that no one was seriously injured,” Police Chief Robert Tusino said in a statement.

However, Chief Tusino emphasized that the crash highlights an ongoing issue in the community.
“The reality is this is another example of riders in our community ignoring safe bike riding principles, leading to another near tragedy,” Chief Tusino said. “The bicyclist and his companion on the e-bike were seen riding recklessly on the sidewalk and veering in and out of traffic with no concern for oncoming vehicles.”
Milford police also released video of the incident, which they say underscores the dangers of unsafe riding practices.
Officials are urging bicyclists and e-bike riders to follow traffic laws and prioritize safety. “It’s critical that our bicyclists and e-bike riders start practicing safe riding before a tragic event,” Tusino added.
