NJ Man Accused Of Cashing $30K Forged Check From Milford Nursing Home

MILFORD, MA — A New Jersey man is facing charges after police said he cashed a forged check worth more than $30,000 earlier this year.

Lamin Conteh, 27, was identified as the suspect following a months-long investigation that began after Milford police responded to Countryside Healthcare, 1 Countryside Drive, on Feb. 2 to investigate the suspected theft and forgery of a $30,104.30 check.

Investigators determined the check had been intercepted in the mail and altered by changing the "pay to the order of" recipient. Police said the forged check was cashed on Feb. 5 at a JPMorgan Chase branch in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Milford detectives conducted an extensive investigation and obtained multiple search warrants, ultimately leading to Conteh's identification as the suspect.

On July 1, Conteh was taken into custody by the Manalapan Police Department in New Jersey on a Fugitive from Justice warrant stemming from the Milford Police Department's investigation.

“I’d like to commend our detective bureau for their efforts in solving this case. Financial crimes are among the most complex to resolve.” Said Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino.

Conteh is awaiting extradition to Massachusetts, where he faces larceny and forgery charges.
