North Andover Firefighter Returns To Duty After Former Fiancée Was Shot

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — A North Andover firefighter whose former fiancée was shot while police were attempting to serve her a restraining order last year has cleared to work after the town said a third-party investigation found "insufficient evidence that Firefighter (Justin) Aylaian violated any town policies."

WCVB-TV reported that Aylaian has been on leave since March when his fiancée, Officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons, was shot in a standoff with fellow officers while they attempted to serve her a restraining order from Aylaian.

WCVB-TV obtained the statement from a North Andover town spokesperson confirming the firefighter's return and declining further comment given that it is a personnel matter.

Fitzsimmons was found not guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon in her role in the altercation with police in late March.

She testified during her trial that she was going through a mental health crisis, potentially intending to use the gun on herself, because of the restraining order.

She also accused Aylaian, and other men, of breaking into her home and taking items in the days following the shooting incident.
