Northborough Fire Selects New Fire Chief

Darling will succeed former Chief David Parenti, who retired earlier this year after 40 years in the fire service.

NORTHBOROUGH, MA — Northborough has selected its new leader for the town's fire department.

The Northborough Select Board unanimously voted Monday night to appoint Keith Darling as fire chief, the fire department announced Tuesday.

"Citizens of Northborough, please join us in welcoming our new Fire Chief, Keith Darling," the department wrote. "He comes to us from the Franklin Fire Department, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership in emergency services."

Darling will succeed former Chief David Parenti, who retired April 1 after 40 years in the fire service. Parenti had led the Northborough Fire Department since 2016.

Deputy Chief Neal Aspesi has served as acting fire chief since Parenti’s retirement, according to an earlier Patch report. Aspesi joined the Northborough department in July 2023.

Darling's tentative start date is Oct. 1.

Town officials welcomed Darling and his family to Northborough following the vote.
