Norwood Schools Awarded $723K For Literacy Instruction

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood Public Schools will receive a major funding boost to strengthen literacy instruction for young students.

The district was awarded $723,450 through the Partnership for Reading Success — Massachusetts grant program, according to a Friday announcement from Gov. Maura Healey. The funding is part of nearly $25 million awarded statewide to improve evidence-based reading instruction.

Known as PRISM, the competitive grant program is part of Healey’s Literacy Launch initiative, which focuses on reading success from age 3 through third grade.

The funding can support instructional materials, educator training, literacy coaching and other systems designed to help students meet reading benchmarks.

Norwood’s fiscal 2027 school budget identifies the $723,450 PRISM grant as the district’s largest competitive state education grant for fiscal 2026.

District officials said in the budget document that the program is intended to create an evidence-based, culturally and linguistically sustaining system of literacy support for students in preschool through third grade.
