GYRO DAY AND YIAYIA'S ATTIC AT ST. VASILIOS
If you're craving a traditional Greek gyro, visit St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church on Paleologos Street in Peabody on Saturday, November 7 from Noon to 7 p.m. for their Gyro Day.
If you're not familiar with gyro, it's a deliciously spiced meat on lightly grilled pita bread loaded with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce. The meat will be roasting on a slow-turning vertical spit, just like you'd see in Greece.
While you're there, you can browse through the church's popular Yiayia's Attic Treasures. It's an indoor thrift market to raise funds for the church and give people a place to shop for everyday household items and one-of-a-kind items that your yiayia would love you to have. (Yiayia is the Greek word for Grandmother.)
Attic Treasures is open Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church is the largest of all Christian Orthodox churches north of Boston. The patron saint of the church is St. Vasilios (St. Basil the Great in English) who is one of the four Great Greek Church Fathers. Sunday Divine Liturgy starts at 9:00 a.m. and all are welcome.
