Peabody Restaurant Cites Road Work For Move To Lynn After 10 Years

Owners of the Central Street spot said they will be "actively looking for opportunities to return to the city in the near future."

PEABODY, MA — Owners of a popular Peabody Tex-Mex restaurant said they are closing after a decade at the end of the month because of the impact of ongoing Central Street road work.

The owners of The NextMex Thing at 5 Central Street said their last day in the location will be April 30 and that they will be moving operations to Lynn while a new Peabody spot is sought.

"We are deeply grateful to the people of this community for welcoming us, supporting us, and allowing us the honor of serving you over the years," the owners posted on social media on Wednesday. "It has truly meant everything to us and our family.

"This decision was not made lightly."

The message cited the hardship of the past two years of the Central Street construction on business and the challenges posed by the prospect of two to three more years of road work and parking disruptions as a primary reason for the move.

"The resulting detours and street closures ultimately forced us to discontinue lunch service and made it increasingly difficult to operate sustainably," the owners said.

The owners added that their "connection to Peabody remains strong," and that the restaurant will move temporarily to 125 Lynnfield Street in Lynn in early June while a new location in Peabody is sought.

"We will be actively looking for opportunities to return to the city in the near future," the owners said. "Please come by and show some support, grab your last meal in our Peabody location before the temporary closure."

The owners also operate Pots on Main Street in Peabody.

"Thank you for a decade of memories, support, and community," they said. "We hope to serve you again soon."
