Dog Alerts Resident To Fire, Reading Fire Officials Say

"This incident could have ended very differently had the occupant not been alerted by the dog," fire officials said.

READING, MA — A fire broke out at a Reading home over the weekend. Companies were dispatched to a Grove Street home on a report of a house filling with smoke at 9 a.m. Saturday, according to Reading Firefighters Local 1640.

Crews arrived to find the single-family home full of smoke and a small fire in the basement. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

A dog alerted the person inside to the fire. The home had no working smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors.
